I’m Okay with That
I will admit it, I am a cream and sugar guy. Some guys like to order coffee “black” right before sending a slightly condescending glance as if to say, “I’m a die hard, a real man, an aficionado.” Well I am not. But I am okay with that.
Some may need various forms of assurance that they are indeed manly. I don’t. For two years I slept, unashamed, in a pink room with a white and pink shabby-chic duvet (my wife’s doing of course). But I didn’t mind it. In fact, I kind of liked it. It was cozy and soft. I like cozy and I certainly like soft.
But I am a “real” man too. I have been known to work long days in construction. I run and climb mountains. I ride dirtbikes (when I have them). I don’t shy away from a hard conversation or a long and arduous journey. I like to drive to places “straight through” like Minneapolis to Phoenix (three times round trip). So I can certainly hang.
However, apart from the aforementioned rant, I don’t feel a need to prove it. It’s okay to appreciate the little comforts in life so long as they aren’t a crutch. So yes, I like cream and sugar in my coffee, lots of it. I like a shower every single day. I like cold air conditioning (I would prefer to stay at a hotel than a tent on any fishing trip). I like freshly washed pink duvets. I even like a warm towel fresh out of the dryer after a shower. Yes, I prefer cozy and soft. I prefer convenience and cleanliness. And most of all I appreciate the creature comforts God has blessed us with in this culture.
Yeah, I just defended my affinity for women’s culture with a “God” mention, but really; soft things, comfortable things, are a blessing.
You might say I am a sissy…But I’m okay with that.
