God needs to be your CEO

I want to be transparent with you. Sometimes I hijack my day, week, month, even years and impose my own agenda. I want control. I need to feel important and I do that by establishing myself as a ‘leader’. This can be very bad because I am putting my own desires ahead of what God desires for me.

I have seen many leaders (including myself; regrettebly, often) get all worked up and fret over needing to have things under their thumb. They need a timeline, a business plan, a daily scheduler, progress reports, meeting updates, and on and on. These things give them the sense of control and make them feel as if others also know that they have things under control.

We live in a day of productivity tools, time tracking, and effectiveness measurements. All of which can be good…

But the tools we use must be subject to God’s agenda for our day, our family, our business, our goals, and our values.

Tools are a good thing. Having a plan is a good thing. But don’t plan too far out and don’t replace God’s direction and leading with tools for productivity.

Submit your daily agenda to God’s direction and you will be productive in the areas that matter to Him. Be willing to let go of your own priorities to serve his. Sometimes that might mean cutting a meeting short or not finishing the project on time because you had to help a friend, family member, or employee. Sometimes it might mean that you will be late (something I HATE) because you felt you needed to take just a moment to talk with your spouse before you left for work.

Whatever it is, be willing to submit your day to God. You will be full of love, joy, and peace if you do so and those things are the key to real productivity.
